Do Your Teeth Define Your Personality?

Our teeth are important for many reasons, but not many people recognize the link between their teeth and personality. While it’s true that having healthy teeth will have effects on overall health, the same can also be said regarding your personality. A happy, bright smile can show empathy, illicit laughter and provide a window into an individual’s inner feelings. Although the secret behind smiles may be easy to read, the real meaning lies within the teeth.

Dissecting Your Teeth

  • Central Incisors: Believe it or not, your two front teeth have a lot to say about your age. If these central incisors are rectangular with rounded corners then they are fairly young teeth, whereas if these teeth become square with square corners, then age begins to show. Teeth can lose anywhere from 1-5 mm in length with age.
  • Lateral Incisors: The teeth to the left and right of your front two teeth, referred to as the lateral incisors, are usually a great indication of gender. Females tend to have more rounded at the end and slightly shorter than central incisors, while males tend to have longer lateral incisors that are almost the same size as the central incisors.
  • Canine/Eye Teeth: Personality can often be determined with the teeth to the right and left of the lateral incisors, known as canine or eye teeth. The pointier and more prominent the teeth are, the more aggressive and powerful the personality will be. In contrast, the more flattened or rounded the tips become, the more passive the personality will be.
  • Teeth Grinding: Teeth grinding suggests a variety of psychological, lifestyle and personality traits including: deep rooted frustrations, anxiety or feeling of anger; aggressive or competitive personality; excessive alcohol, smoking or caffeine intake.

Confident Smile

Evidence makes it pretty clear how important teeth are. Statistics have shown that roughly 164 million work hours per year are spent treating dental problems for working adults and about 51 million school hours per year are spent treating dental problems for children. Having a confident smile can go a long way in life and may even improve your self-esteem or boost your confidence enough to snag a job opportunity that might otherwise have gone to another candidate.
