HPV Related Oral Cancer: Key Breakthrough

It’s no secret that the well known causes of human papillomavirus (HPV) are genital warts, and in some cases, certain cancers. However, HPV may also be responsible for causing oral cancer as well. According to The Oral Cancer Foundation, 36,000 new cases of oral cancer will be diagnosed this year in the United States. Every year in the UK, oral cancer kills more people than cervical and testicular cancer combined. FDA Recall: Propoxyphene Taken Off the Market

Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc., makers of Darvon and Darvocet, decided to voluntarily pull the drug off the market at the request of the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA also highly encouraged other generic makers of the drug propoxyphene to voluntarily stop production as well. The drug is used commonly to treat mild to moderate pain, and was approved by the FDA in 1957, and sold under various names and brands.
